Atmore Farm & Garden was originally founded as a cotton gin and farm supply company by H. W. Currie in 1913, under the name "Atmore Milling & Elevator Co." It was known to locals as "Currie's," or often as "the Checkerboard Store," because of its red-and-white checkered exterior. In 1985 it was purchased by Walter Crim and became "Central Farm Supply," until 2021 when Jason Slay purchased it and renamed it Atmore Farm & Garden. Now it is owned by gardening author and teacher David The Good and his wife Rachel, who have expanded the plant nursery, seed and gardening tool selection and also offer education on turning your yard into an edible garden of Eden.
